Crew Newsletter

SBYD was formed to provide sailing opportunities for personnel to sail with us on our deliveries. We use crew of varying experience and the following table should be used as a guideline when filling out the crew application.

OFFSHORE SEA MILES/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR DELIVERY TO:

(*) 3rd Crew is periodically available at your own expense if you do not meet sailing requirements for other crew positions.

For all SBYD deliveries, on-board provisioning and return travel expenses are provided for 1st Mate and 2nd Crew. However, crew positions are unpaid, voluntary positions.
DELIVERY CREW
Crewing on deliveries is a combination of hard work and hard play. Crew are expected to take watches (sailing 24 hours a day) and do their fair share of the duties involved in running a yacht. Crew will have the opportunity to learn celestial navigation and the finer points of seamanship as well as gaining valuable experience and mileage towards any goal set by an institution to become qualified (US Coast Guard license, etc.)
DURATIONS OF DELIVERIES
Most of our deliveries are to and from the Caribbean, although we handle many other destinations. Caribbean passages normally take 10-14 days. Transatlantic and Transpacific passages normally take one month. Aside from sailing time, you should also expect one to two days on either end of delivery for preparing the yacht for voyage, clean up and handover of the vessell for the customer.
PERSONAL EQUIPMENT
Crew is required to bring warm and waterproof clothing “foul weather gear), sleeping bag or bed roll, a working watch, flashlight and water-activated mob light (not a strobe light). A safety harness is essential for your personal safety. Although the on-board provisioning and your return travel are taken care of, please do not arrive on the boat without extra money in case of delays or emergencies. Other common extra items to bring include a book to read, personal stereo, etc.

Dear Prospective Crew Member:

Thank you for your interest in coming aboard St. Barts Yachts Deliveries (SBYD). Our goal at SBYD is to assure that each delivery is completed safely and on time. We are looking for qualified volunteer crew who enjoy sailing and want the experience of completing and offshore delivery.

All of the vessels that SBYD delivers have full safety equipment on board to meet US Coast Guard and insurance requirements.

Our 2012/2013 season is very busy, with deliveries going to and coming from the Caribbean and various destinations on the US East Coast.

If you are interested in making a delivery with us, it is very important that you read all of the information provided, complete and sign the necessary crew forms, and send a follow-up email to sbyd@st-barts.com to confirm your interest. Keep the informational pages for your future reference. Although this may seem a tedious task, please remember that it is essential to give us the exact information that we ask for. Your application is submitted for insurance approval prior to joining on as crew. The more information you provide us the better your chances of being selected to crew.

Incomplete crew forms cannot be processed.

Please feel free to call me if you have any questions. HAPPY SAILING!!
